MENDOTA - Donald H. “Poppy” Pollex, 86, of Mendota died peacefully at home on Sept. 5, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mendota with Rev. Kim Lee Brown officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Don was born March 16, 1932 in Chicago to Harold and Etta (Malinsky) Pollex. He married the love of his life, June Haberstock.

Survivors include his wife of Mendota; three children, Douglas (Deborah) Pollex, Donald Pollex, and Gale (Jay) Pollex; seven grandchildren, Jake, Sarah (Denny), Jordan, Samantha (Keith), Heather (Matt), Chris and Michelle (Dustin); nine great-grandchildren, Trevor, Aiden, Kaelynn, Rebecca, Connor, Devlin, Kenneth, Cassidy, and Caden; and one sister, Carol Klein.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Pollex Judge and Earlamae Pollex Corrirossi, and his parents.

Don graduated in 1950 from Luther High School in Chicago. He served with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the Korean War from 1953-1956. He was the owner operator of an Enco service station for five years and then was a broker agent for Farmers Insurance for 27 years. He loved long car trips, camping and family adventures. He enjoyed bowling and became a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge 1212, and American Legion. He was always up for an adventure and a creative story.
