Northbrook Young Authors

 MENDOTA – Several students from Lincoln and Northbrook Schools will attend a Young Author Celebration, April 27 at Grand Bear Lodge in Utica with other students from the Starved Rock Reading Council area. The selected students submitted a poem, book or short story that was then chosen by a committee. The winners, in grades K-8, will hear presentations by award winning authors Crystal Chan, Kate Hannigan, and Barb Rosenstock, and receive an autographed book and certificate of participation.

About the attending authors:

Crystal Chan grew up as a mixed-race kid in the middle of the Wisconsin cornfields and has been trying to find her place in the world ever since. When Crystal is not writing, she is biking along the city streets of Chicago and talking to her pet turtle. Bird is her first novel.

Kate Hannigan writes fiction and non-fiction for young readers. A former newspaper journalist, she loves listening to people's stories and digging deep into research. Her historical fiction debut, "The Detective's Assistant," received the 2016 Golden Kite Award for best middle-grade novel.

Barb Rosenstock often pretends to live in the past, although she is thankful for indoor plumbing, the Internet and instant cocoa. She resides outside Chicago with her husband and sons. Barb loves true stories best and enjoys sharing her passion for writing at school visits.
