MENDOTA – The Mendota High School District 280 Board of Education handled several items of business during its regular meeting on Jan. 17.
Principal Denise Aughenbaugh informed the board that as of Jan. 23, students, parents and teachers across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the 10th annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of the school. Parents can share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about the school. The survey window for school year 2022-23 is from now until Friday, March 31.
Parents will be emailed their survey. Teachers will have time to complete their portion of the survey on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Student surveys are being organized and will be administered in February.
Two volunteer coaches/sponsors were approved by the board. Steve Gibertini will be a volunteer assistant coach for softball, as he has done for many years prior, and Anna Weber will serve as a volunteer cheerleading coach.
Aughenbaugh shared several informational items with the board. National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society inductions will be conducted and presented on Monday, Feb. 6. The MHS Student Council will host a traditional Sadie’s Dance on Saturday, Feb. 11. The following day, Sunday, Feb. 12, the Symphony Concert will be held. There will be no school on Monday, Feb. 20 in observance President’s Day.
Superintendent Jeff Prusator presented the school calendar for the 2023-24 school year, which was approved by the board. The year will begin with a teacher institute on Monday, Aug. 14 and Tuesday, Aug. 15. The first day for students is Wednesday, Aug. 16. The Christmas holiday break is scheduled for Dec. 22 through Jan. 2 and spring break is planned for March 29 through April 7. The last day of school without any emergency days is set for Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
The next regular meeting of the District 280 Board of Education will be Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m.
