SUBLETTE - Dennis “Denny” L. Barrett, 69, of Sublette passed away Jan. 5, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a three-year battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Kevin Donahue officiating. Burial will be at Wisner Cemetery with military honors by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the funeral home.
Dennis was born Oct. 19, 1949 in Mendota to Keith and Eloise (Mear) Barrett. He married Sonia Schaefer on Dec. 19, 1990.
Survivors include his wife of Sublette; his parents; one son, Blaine (Bria Chandler) Barrett of Sublette; two daughters, Jodi (Glen) Hall of Ishpeming, Mich. and Heather (Kyle) Zinke of Mendota; one brother, Larry (Jeanne) Barrett of Mendota; two sisters, Nancy (Robert) Watkin of Peachtree City, Ga. and Cheryl (Jerry) Thorne of Sublette; three stepchildren, Brad (Liz Hertz) Burkart of Mendota, Brian (Jess Milewski) of Mendota and Beth (Eric Schier) of Sublette; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Dennis was a 1967 graduate of Mendota High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1967-1970 and did two tours in Vietnam. After returning home, he worked at Motor Wheel, was an iron worker for Local 444 in Joliet, and owned and operated Wall to Wall Installers for many years before retiring in December of 2012. He was a San Francisco 49ers fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports when he wasn’t working on cars, spending time with family, drawing his “stickman” cards or riding his Harley with his wife and family members.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
