MENDOTA - David W. Stockhus, 65, of Mendota died May 1, 2017 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, May 11 at the First Presbyterian Church, Mendota with Rev. Susan Presley officiating. Merritt Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
David was born May 25, 1951 in Ottawa to William and Nancy (Conkey) Stockhus. He married Cindy Rishel in Wisconsin in 1977.
Survivors include his wife of Mendota; two sons, Mark Stockhus and Tyler (Becky) Stockhus, both of Watertown, Wis.; one brother, Mark (Kathryn) Stockhus of San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren, Brynn, Chloe and Brady Stockhus; one niece Caroline; and one nephew, Jonathan.
He was preceded in death by his father and his mother, Nancy Payne.
David grew up in Mendota where he began school. He graduated Shorewood High School in Wisconsin in 1969 and from UW-Whitewater University in 1974 with a degree in art education. He returned to the university in 1977 to begin a graduate program in special education. Most of his teaching career was spent at Watertown High School in Wisconsin. He enjoyed coaching wrestling, baseball and swimming. He loved his family, his many dogs and had a passion for music of all genres.
