Community group to raffle collectible cancer legacy quilt

MENDOTA - In honor of the coming July 13 10th-year Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley event, organizers are raffling a piece of local cancer-fight history. A custom, hand-made “RFLUIV Legacy Quilt” features cloth-squares from all 10 of the event’s official annual T-shirts. This includes the event’s first year (Maple Park, Earlville, 2010), and its first year at Lake Mendota Park (2011) in which the event was rated #1 in Illinois and #5 in the nation from over 7,000 Relay For Life events.

Donors may obtain tickets online by clicking the “Legacy Quilt” button at www.1mil.org, from campaign chairperson Mitch Landgraf (e-mail [email protected]), or online through the Legacy Quilt Fundraiser at Facebook user “March TO A Million.”

The cancer charity and annual overnight event raises funds to provide free cancer-support services to local residents and to support cancer research and prevention programs. RFLUIV has raised $932,480.03 to date and aims to reach $1 million in conjunction with its 10th anniversary. The special campaign is called the “March To A Million.” Donors and sponsors are asked to please close the remaining $67,520 gap by supporting team fundraisers or making direct donations or sponsorships. Information is at www.1mil.org, www.relayforlife.org/uivil, and via Facebook user “March TO A Million.”

Free cancer-supports are available to any Illinois Valley resident 24/7 in any language at 1-800-227-2345 or online at www.cancer.org.
