MENDOTA – The Mendota VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on May 13 for a monthly business meeting.

Commander Andrew Wagner of VFW Post 4079 installed the officers for 2017-18. They will begin their duties at the July meeting. Linda Patterson will be the new president. Betty Bulfer will be presented with a gift at the June meeting to thank her for her years of service as president.

Members approved two new memberships, both joining as life members.

Communications were read and included a thank-you from the Starved Rock Area Special Olympics for their recent donation. They also received an invitation to the Volunteer Luncheon from the Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle on June 7 at the Elks Lodge in Oglesby. Three members will attend.

Committee reports included the results of Poppy Days held on May 5-6. A deposit will be made for Lightning Bingo that occurs on Friday nights at 5:30 p.m. Ninety-nine people were served at the April Steak Fry. Everyone who worked or provided food was thanked.

The Hospital Report showed they received six wheelchair bags and four drawstring bags from Carol Lushina.

The Legislative Report included an update from the Capital Report. Members receive this report via email.

Under Old business, it was reported that Bartonville had an Honor Flight on May 9. The bench for Veterans Park is awaiting approval by the City Council. A meal will be provided for members on May 29 after the Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery.

Under new business members approved providing two magazine subscriptions at the Graves-Hume Public Library.

Due to many events scheduled, the meeting on June 10 will start 30 minutes early, at 10:30 a.m. not the usual 11 a.m.
