American Legion
MENDOTA – The Mendota American Legion Post 540 will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 9 at 6 p.m. at the Mendota VFW. All members are encouraged to attend.

OTTAWA – The LaSalle County Retired Teachers Association held their spring 2018 general meeting at Festivities Unlimited in Ottawa on April 23.
Highlights of the meeting included:
* Foundation Committee chairperson Deb Torri informed members about current foundation matters and read the names of recently deceased LSCRTA members followed by a moment of silence;
* Janie Hoffmann will be training to assist in the development and maintenance of the website: www.LSCRTA.org;
* Mary Trovero, special projects committee chairperson, explained the new initiative to bring baskets to LaSalle County schools to enhance awareness of LSCTRA;
* Vice President Alice Joop provided members with information about the Little School House on display in which books could be donated when it is placed at the Dickenson House in Oglesby;
* Members were updated on current changes of interest to retired educators;
* School safety was discussed;
* IRTA Region 7 Director Navana Ahrends brought members up-to-date on Region 7 activities including the May 17 IRTA Area 1 Conference at IVCC;
* Nancy Kramer presented information on the various insurance and other benefits available to members; and
* Members were informed about many of the positive initiatives and programs provided by the IRTA.
