MENDOTA – Mendota VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on May 12 for the monthly business meeting.
News from the meeting included:
May 14-18 is Research Week at Hines VA Hospital. There are multiple presentations open to all veterans and their families that are being held in the auditorium of Hines Hospital.
Over 800 poppies were distributed last weekend during Poppy Days. Funds collected will be deposited in the Veteran’s Relief Fund.
One hundred and twenty-three people were served at the April 21 Steak Fry. The event netted a profit of several hundred dollars more than last year.
Members heard a report of the 9th District meeting in Ottawa from April 29.
Officers for 2018-19 were installed by Past President Betty Bulfer and will assume their duties at the July meeting.
Upcoming events include: Armed Forces Day, May 19; Memorial presentations at the Old Courthouse in Ottawa, May 23; Honor Flight with one of the auxiliary members being a guardian, June 7; ¾ Vietnam Traveling Wall in Ottawa (1000 E. Center St., south of the river), June 7-11; next auxiliary meeting at 11 a.m., June 9; Elks Flag Day Ceremony, June 14; and Dept. VFW and Auxiliary Convention in Springfield, June 14-16.
