MENDOTA – Members of the VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on April 14 for the monthly business meeting.

Members were reminded of the next 9th District meeting in Ottawa on Sunday, April 29.

Committee reports included a membership report of 10 members who need to pay dues soon or their membership will end.

The Hospital report noted that there will be a baby shower for veterans at Hines VA on May 11. Members voted to make a donation for this event.

Veterans and Family Services have designated May 4-5 as Poppy Days in Mendota. Members signed up for times to take donations. Members who were not at the meeting can sign up for a time and pick up their poppies and baskets at the VFW.

Trustees completed the audit prior to the meeting and gave a report. Members approved the audit for January to March, 2018.

Members will be placing flags on the graves of deceased auxiliary members after the May 12 meeting. The bench for Veterans Park has arrived and will be installed when weather permits.

Members approved helping the post replace some coolers that have stopped working.

Members also will again sponsor a young lady to Girls State. Other donations approved include Special Olympics and National Veteran’s Service.

Election of officers for 2018-19 took place and installation will take place at the May 12 meeting. Most officers retained their office. Change in officers will be Conductress and 3-year trustee. Delegates for District, Department and National Conventions were also elected. Members also volunteered for committee chairmanships. New booklets will be available at the June meeting. Members also voted to send a donation for out-going President Mary Spindler.

The Goodie Prize was won by Mickey Baird.

Upcoming events include: Auxiliary Steak Fry on April 21, 9th District Meeting on April 29, Poppy Days on May 4-5; and the next meeting May 12 at 11 a.m.

IVADA

STREATOR – Illinois Valley Activity Director’s Association held a meeting at Heritage Health, Streator on April 9.

Members shared information on entertainers that they have at their facilities and discussed national nursing home week ideas for the week of May 13-19.

Janet Sand, from Health Services Consultants, addressed members on “Understanding and Addressing Behaviors.”

The next meeting will be held on May 21, at Pleasant View in Ottawa at noon, with Lee Moriarity speaking on “Person Centered Care is the Only Way to Provide.”
