MENDOTA – Members of the VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on March 10 for the monthly business meeting.
Secretary and treasurer’s reports were approved as presented. Communications included dues from a member and paperwork for the Sweet Corn Queen Pageant. Legislative report included a news release from the LaSalle Co. Veteran’s Assistance program detailing how veterans can apply for benefits. Members also received a weekly VFW Action Report via email. Veterans and Family Support will be setting the date for Poppy Days which will probably be in early May. The bench for Veteran’s Park has been ordered and will be installed sometime in May. The date will be stamped in the cement base.
The Department is putting together a cookbook; a recipe has been sent to be included in this project. The cookbook will be available for purchase at the Department convention in June.
Information was received on the ¾ scale memorial wall which will be coming to Ottawa June 6-11. Opening ceremonies will be on June 7 at 5 p.m. The wall will be located at 1000 Center St. Ottawa on the grounds of the UAW Region 4 Pat Greathouse Center.
Members signed up to work and bring items for the steak fry on April 21. Contact one of the officers if you are able to help. Final preparations will be discussed at the April 14 meeting. Election of officers for 2018-19 will also be at the April meeting. The meeting will be preceded by the quarterly audit at 10:30 a.m.
