Fair City Quilters

SANDWICH – The Fair City Quilters will meet on Monday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Federated Church, 403 N. Main St. in Sandwich. This month’s meeting will feature Lisa Furleigh of Quilting in the Valley in LaSalle. She will be speaking about her upcoming workshop held in Sandwich on the Mariner Star. Fair City Quilters welcome quilters of all levels. There is a $5 guest fee.

Illinois Valley Herb Guild

STANDARD – The Illinois Valley Herb Guild will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Community Center in Standard. This month’s program will be on hummingbirds by Master Gardener and club member, Sandra Miller. This meeting is a “soup meeting.” Members are encouraged to bring soup, bread or crackers. New members are always welcome.

VFW Auxiliary

MENDOTA – Eleven members of the Mendota VFW 4079 Auxiliary met on Feb. 9 for the monthly business meeting.

Members accepted the transfer of a member from Kewanee Auxiliary 8078. Secretary’s report was accepted as read. A request to support Special Olympics was received. Legislative news included the weekly VFW Action report which is emailed to members.

In Membership, eight members still owe dues. Phone calls will be made to these members, as they have already received to mail notices.

Scholarship winners have been announced. The Voice of Democracy winner is Paityn Barkman. Patriot’s Pen winners are: Lily Bokus, 1st; Ryleigh Sondgeroth, 2nd; and Madelyne Dalton, 3rd. They are all students at Holy Cross school.

There was no old or new business to discuss.

Upcoming events include Steak Fry on Feb. 16 with coals ready at 5:30 p.m. The next meeting is on March 9 at 11 a.m. No word has been received if the 9th District meeting that was cancelled on Jan. 27 will be rescheduled.
