MENDOTA – The VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary held a monthly business meeting on Dec. 9.
Six new members were approved.
Secretary and treasurer’s reports were presented and approved for October and November. Bills were presented for new Historian materials and supplies for Lightning Bingo. The auxiliary received thank-you letters from Manteno, Illiana and Jefferson Barracks for the donation sent in October. Scholarship report had a reminder that Patriotic Art contest has a deadline in March of 2018.
The Hospital report showed that Carol Lushina had made two drawstring bags and five wheelchair bags. LaSalle Veteran’s Home has no need for them right now, so they will be sent to another VA home.
Legislative report was given by Bill Patterson. He reported that veterans are eligible for free legal service. He also informed members about recently passed veterans legislation.
Membership reported that there are still 33 members who have not paid dues for this year. Dues must be paid by Dec. 20. Annual dues of $20 can be left at the club or done online using the new MALTA system. Log on to the Dept. of Illinois VFW Auxiliary website and have your membership card ready.
The poppies have arrived and they will be making plans for poppy days in May of 2018.
Under Old Business, members approved a donation to the next Honor Flight out of the Quad Cities. This will take place in March.
Under New Business, members approved a donation to the Women of the Moose for their annual Senior Citizens Christmas dinner. Other donations were made to Operation Elf Action and for a veteran in Belleville who lost his home and possessions in a fire on Nov. 29.
The Goodie Prize went to Gail Sessler. The meeting closed with rituals and was followed by a Christmas luncheon made by members. The next meeting is Jan. 13, 2018 at 11 a.m.
