MENDOTA – Mendota VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on Jan. 13 for the monthly business meeting.

Two new life members were approved. Dues from six members were accepted. Eighteen members still have outstanding dues, preventing 100 percent membership. These members will be contacted for a third time.

Communications were read and included thank-you letters from three VA hospitals that were sent donations: Cap. James A. Lovell FHCC, Wm. S. Middleton in Madison and Jesse Brown VAMC; a thank-you from Honor Flight of the Quad Cities for the recent donation, and a thank-you from the Women of the Moose for the donation to their senior citizen’s holiday meal.

January bulletins were read for the following committees: Americanism, Legislative, Veteran’s and Family Support, Scholarship, Youth Activities, and Extension. A completed history book for the last two years was brought in and members looked through it. Hospital report included several calendars were taken to LaSalle VA Home. Right now, there are plenty of calendars.

Under new business, members were notified that the Dept. Auxiliary will be publishing another cook book and it will be available starting in June at the convention. A recipe will be sent in representing the Post 4079 Auxiliary. Money from Lightning Bingo was given to the treasurer for deposit.

Upcoming events include a Steak Fry on Saturday, Jan. 20; 9th District meeting in Peoria Heights on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m., and the next regular meeting on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.

Trustees completed the quarterly audit and presented it to the members and it was approved. Donna Hunt won the goodie prize.
