MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council awarded several bids and announced the purchase of property at a special telephone/online council meeting on Oct. 15.

A series of bid openings were held on Oct. 6 for the South East Mendota Sanitary Sewer Systems Improvements program.

Four bids were submitted for the Seventh Avenue Pump Station. The low bid of $1,497,150 was awarded to Whittaker Construction & Excavating of Earlville.

Five bids were turned in for the S&L Pump Station Demolition and the Front Street Gravity Sewer. The council accepted the low bid of Opperman Construction of Pontiac in the amount of $196,940.

The Seventh Avenue Force Main Replacement project had six bidders. Performance Construction of Plano was approved for the work with a low bid of $427,891.

There were five bidders for the Cherry Street Gravity Sewer Extension project. The council accepted the low bid of $468,245 from “D” Construction of Coal City.

The sum of the accepted bids was 14 percent lower than the engineering corporation’s estimate for the entire project.

In other action, the council approved authorization to purchase property at 704 Illinois Ave., the former Meyers Furniture building, in the amount of $23,000.

The council also voted to approve the termination of TIF VI (Del Monte).

The city leaf vacuum program began Oct. 19. Pickup will be done by ward with the First Ward on Monday, the Second Ward on Tuesday, the Third Ward on Wednesday and the Fourth Ward on Thursday. Friday will be used as a catch-up day.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
