MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council convened for a short regular meeting on July 6.
Police Chief Greg Kellen informed the council that a traffic study of the Second Avenue corridor from Sixth Street to Division Street has been completed and presented to the council for its review. There are several unmarked intersections in the stretch of Second Avenue.
Also, Kellen said a traffic engineering study in the Blackstone School area has been completed and he will meet with Carl Ambler, Street Department superintendent, to formulate a plan for a more efficient way to drop off and pick up students at the school. He will present the findings to the council at the next meeting.
In Aldermanic reports, Jay Miller reported on a recommendation by the Mendota Historical Restoration & Preservation Commission to allow a certificate of appropriateness grant in the amount of $7,000 to Walter Tunk for the building at 716 Illinois Ave. The grant, which was approved by the council, will be used for façade improvements.
The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m.
