MENDOTA - The Mendota High School Chapter of the National Honor Society held its 7th Annual Charity Dodgeball Tournament on Oct. 29. Proceeds totaling $149.50 and 71 pounds of non-perishable food items were donated to the Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry.
Participating teams donated $20, or $2 per player, and one non-perishable food item per player. Spectators were asked to provide either one non-perishable food item or a cash donation.
Four teams of 8-10 Mendota High School students participated in a double elimination tournament, which was won for the third consecutive year by a group of sophomore, junior and senior boys calling themselves the “Choppers.”
National Honor Society members worked on advertising the tournament throughout school, signing up teams during lunch periods, and officiating, announcing, and clock-keeping during the tournament.
National Honor Society members include president Katie Beetz, vice-president Katherine Wohrley, co-secretaries Preston Lewis and Gillian Sondgeroth, and members Mia Artman, Peyton Baird, Myah Boelk, Melyna Covarrubias, Ilian Hernandez, Lizandra Hernandez, Phalen Hessenberger, Allison Olczak, Abby Phalen and Jacob Stohr.
