MENDOTA – The Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council will celebrate its 19th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival on Thursday, May 4 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mendota Civic Center, 1901 Tom Merwin Drive, to celebrate cultural awareness.
Everyone is invited to attend this free event featuring Ronald McDonald and win some fabulous prizes. Also, please join the festivities for some authentic Mexican food, folkloric dancers, I-Pad and TV raffles, information booths, queen, mini-king and mini-queen contests, and entertainment for all.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over the French during the Battle of Puebla in 1862. To this day, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in several U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population including the Illinois Valley.
