MENDOTA - Catherine M. Taylor, 99, of Mendota passed away November 19, 2021 in Heritage Health Mendota.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22 with a 3:30 p.m. rosary at the Wasmer Funeral Home, Mendota. Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Holy Cross Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family.

Catherine was born Sept. 30, 1922 in Mendota to Martin and Elizabeth (Kratz) Spitz. She married Arthur John Henkel at Holy Cross on Feb. 5, 1941; he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1955. She married William Grubb at Holy Cross on May 24, 1958; he preceded her in death on April 18, 1961. She then married Robert “Paul” Taylor on May 12, 1962 at Holy Cross, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2016.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Decker of Des Moines, Iowa, Lois (Richard) Schwemlein of Mendota, Shirley (Don) Dallmier of Arcola, and Cathy Hall of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Carlene Schuhler of Sublette and Rita (David) Jones of Mendota; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; one daughter, Susan Taylor; one grandson, Taylor Hall; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Al Spitz, Leo Spitz, Martin Spitz and Delbert Spitz; and three sisters, Estelle Fonner, Delores Brandt and Florence “Toots” Kuebel.

During her work career, Catherine was a housekeeper for many local homes. She found time to volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Catholic War Veterans in LaSalle, was active in many card clubs, and was in charge of the funeral dinners at Holy Cross where she was a devout member.
