MENDOTA - Get the scoop this summer, when the Mendota Education Foundation 3M brings their summer musical, Disney’s “Newsies” to the stage for the first time in this area. A cast of 55 community members from Mendota, LaMoille, Morris, LaSalle, Seneca, Geneseo and Coal City has been selected to portray this upbeat story, which is based on an 1899 newsboys strike in New York.
The cast of characters will include Jack Kelly – Dylan Obrochta, Crutchie – Jake Stohr, Davey – Eric Masini, Les – Dessa Komitas, Katherine Plumber – Samantha Masini, Darcy – Bobby Arteaga, Bill – Nicholas Russell, Albert – Austin Allbert, Henry – Cole Pursell, Elmer – Emilio Raya, Romeo – Keenan Ellis, Specs – Fabian Gomez, Mush – Matthew Grenter, Finch – Patrick Foley, Buttons – McKayla Zorn, Ike – Abby Hesslau, Tommy Boy – Cody Bratcher, Mike – Nya Ranel, Race – Cole Enervold, Splasher – Eulysses Preciado, Wiesel/Stage Manage/Mr. Jacobi/and Mayor – Brock Sondgeroth, Oscar Delancey - Dylan Saylor, Morris Delancey – Walter Hall, Joseph Pulitzer – James Younger, Bunsen – Kevin Wohrley, Hannah – Jennifer Masini, Nunzio – Raleigh Shifflette, Governor Roosevelt – Jim Carter, Snyder – Aaron Grenter, and Medda Larkin – Virjean Haywood.
The “Bowry Beauties/Newsies” will be played by Natalie Suarez, Kristin Serena, Libbie Tjelle, and Katherine Wohrley; “Nuns” will be Linda Whitmore, Jacqui Whitmore and Lexi Wamhoff; and “Other Newsies” will be Faith Anderson, Kendall Biers, Bonnie Hall, Karsyn Klatt, Leilani Landeros, Brooke Lee, Maddy Pappas, Anna Roseland, Olivia Ross, Alex Stremlau, and Olivia Tjelle. “Kid Newsies” will include Mei Booth, Collin Coss, Ella Coss, Trey Lee, Ella Martin, Sophie Pappas, Jessica Reel, James Whitmore and Jillian Younger.
“Newsies” will be performed at the Mendota High School Auditorium on Friday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $15 at www.showtix4u.com, search: Newsies, or call the box office at (815) 503-2414. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
