AUBURN, Wash. - Carolyn Louise (Kunz) Kittle, 87, of Auburn, Wash., formerly of Mendota, passed away March 8, 2019.
Final arrangements are still pending but once the weather warms this summer, a memorial gathering will be scheduled, followed by the spreading of her ashes on Mount Rainier.
Carolyn was born July 9, 1931 in Kansas City, Mo. to Adm. Chester Kunz and Carolyn (Leuenberger) Kunz. She married Chester Wiley (Bill) Kittle on Dec. 20, 1951 in Charleston, S.C. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Roxanna Doyle of Auburn, Wash. and Katherine Cross of Auburn, Wash.; one son, Chet (Marsha) Kittle of Bonney Lake, Wash.; four granddaughters, Amanda Doyle, Natascha (Chris) Rogers, Rebecca (Kreston) Williams and Vanessa (Josh) Poisson; one grandson, Michel (Amy) Cross; seven great-grandchildren Jewel Cross, Delta Cross, Sydney Cross, Olivia Cross-Kirby, Robert Ferrel, Logan Rogers and Emma Carolyn Williams; one brother, Chester A. (Debby) Kunz; one sister, Harriett Zielinski; many nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of students she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Delta Cross; one brother-in-law, James Zielinski; and her ex-husband, Bill Kittle.
Carolyn graduated from Illinois State University in 1964 with a degree in physical education. She taught PE in Mendota in the late 50s to 1961 then from 1964 to 1976. In the summers, she taught swimming, tennis and managed the girls and women’s fast-pitch softball teams. She worked as an activities director in a nursing home in Peru from 1976 to 1978. In August of 1978, she moved to Washington with her daughter, son-in-law and first granddaughter.
