When did Trick or Treating first become a common part of Halloween in the U.S.?

The answer to last week’s quiz is: The noteworthy television event that took place on Aug. 30, 1953 was the broadcast of a color TV show. This was the first publicly announced experimental broadcast in compatible color television of a network program. Presented by NBC, the program was “St. George and the Dragon” on the Kukla, Fran, and Ollie Show. (Source: The Old Farmer’s Almanac)
