MENDOTA – Fred and Mary Burnette will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 16.
Mary Jane Harvey became the bride of Frederick Burnette on Aug. 16, 1953. Rex and Curt Burnette, brothers of the groom (both deceased), Gladys Karas (deceased) and Verla Shaw of Mendota were their attendants.
Mary graduated from Mendota High School in 1953. Fred graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army.
The couple have two sons, Jeffery (Sheila) of Elgin and Duane (Denise) of Mendota, and three grandsons, Brandon (Katie) of Normal, Sean Dalton of Hoboken, N.Y., and Austin of the Univ. of Arizona. They also have a great grandson, Benjamin of Normal.
Mrs. Burnette worked for Spurgeons Dept. Store for 22 years. Fred was a salesman most of his life. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., A.G. Fry Grain Bin Co., and Heilig Myer Furniture Co. He retired from working part-time at WalMart on April 1, 2018.
