PRINCETON - The Bureau County Genealogical Society will hold an open house on Saturday, Oct. 16 to recognize its 31st birthday after having been unable to celebrate last year. The open house will be held at the Society library, 629 S. Main St., Princeton.

The public is cordially invited to come in to visit anytime between 10 a.m. and noon. BCGS would like to acquaint visitors and members with their research materials and online genealogical resources.

For those curious about how to research ancestors, there will be a free packet available containing ancestor charts, recommended websites, and helpful information for beginners. BCGS staff will be on hand to demonstrate helpful sites and how to use the charts.

In addition, three door prizes will be awarded by a drawing. Winners need not be present at the time of the drawing. The three prizes consist of a one-hour introduction to Ancestry.com, a BCGS membership for one year, and one hour of BCGS genealogy consultation. A person does not need to have Bureau County ancestors in order to take part in the morning’s activities or benefit from the door prizes.

Light refreshments will be served throughout the morning. For further information please stop by the Society library or call (815) 879-3133 during the hours of operation 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
