SUBLETTE — The Village of Sublette has a new village clerk.

During the monthly Village of Sublette Board meeting on Nov. 11 at the Ellice Dinges Center, the board approved a motion for Mackenzie Belan to fill the remaining term of Sublette Village Clerk Brenda Vaessen, who resigned the position effective Nov. 30.

Belan will begin the position on Dec. 1 and will remain village clerk until the end of the elected term in 2021.

The board also approved a motion to pay Vaessen $150 per month for helping to train the new village clerk.

Last month, acting Sublette Village Mayor John Stenzel said on installing LED lights at the park and the lights uptown, the village might not be able to get the ComEd rebate as they once thought. At the village meeting, Stenzel said the additional cost to install the LED lights will be $3,896.27. The board approved a motion to finish installing the LED lights at the additional cost.

• Stenzel reported that he got an email from Republic Services and that the company pulled all of their trucks off the road on Monday due to weather. He said this could delay the garbage pick-up for Sublette this week. He wants residents to know they should still put their garbage out on Thursday, but it might be Friday before Republic picks up the garbage.

• Stenzel said that he is working on a letter to send out to all residents about ordinance violations and how the village will be getting strict about the violations.

• The board approved TJS Excavating of Mendota to look into a problem in the storm tile on East First and South Chestnut.

• In terms of previous projects nearing completion, Stenzel reported that the security camera installation and parking space painting project are almost completed. He also said that new gravel has been placed on the walking path. Also, the trees in the mini park that were slated to be removed have been removed and the stumps ground down.

• The board approved the 2019-2020 levy at $15,363.

• The board approved the purchase and installation of four cement panels, or livestock panels, for the new maintenance building. The cost of the panels from Princeton Ready Mix is $55 each, or $220 total for four panels. TJS Excavating will complete the installation of the cement panels at a cost of $350.

• Stenzel told the board there are people interested in purchasing the village’s excess property and wanted the board’s opinion on if the properties should be sold. Sublette Village Board member Julie Kessel said she thought the board should wait and look into the options more. The matter was tabled.

• The board approved three people to the planning commission – Nick Dinges, Richard Klaiser and Jeff Spitz.

• Sublette Village Attorney Dana Considine told the village it has until June 1 if it wants to pass a village tax on the sale of marijuana. She said the village can tax up to 3 percent. No action was taken on this matter.

The next Sublette Village Board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9 in the Ellice Dinges Center.
