DIXON – State Senator Tim Bivins this week announced that he will not run for re-election in 2018.

Bivins serves the 45th District in Illinois, which includes portions of Lee, LaSalle, DeKalb, Ogle, Carroll, Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Winnebago and Whiteside counties. He was appointed to the office in March 2008 following the resignation of Todd Sieben. He was elected to the seat in November 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2014.

Prior to serving in the state senate, Bivins had a career in law enforcement including 20 years as Lee County Sheriff, 1986-2006.

In a press release, Bivins stated that he plans to finish his current term but wanted to allow enough time for anyone else who may be interested to announce and campaign.

“While there are no underlying issues in this decision, simply put, its time to come home,” Bivins wrote. “I have no immediate plans but do plan to continue to work, be involved in my community and church.”
