MENDOTA - Bernardine J. “Bernie” Bores 93, formally of Compton passed away Aug. 9, 2018 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at St. Mary’s Church, West Brooklyn with Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13 at the Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Bernie was born June 21, 1925 in Aurora to Leslie and Remey (Wiltgen) Farrington. She married the love of her life, Bill Bores, on May 15, 1954 in Aurora. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Barb Hill of Mendota; two sons, Joe Bores of Compton and Bill (Suzette) Bores of Yorkville; six grandchildren, Stephen Magnuson, Jessica Ceballos, Jeremy Ceballos, Seri Mosher, Stephen Bores and Suzelle Bores; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Jack Farrington, Merle Farrington and Les Farrington; one sister, Marion Farrington; and her twin, Bernard, who passed away three weeks after birth.

Bernie was a 1943 graduate of the former Madonna High School of Aurora. She was employed in her youth as a payroll secretary for the CB&Q Railroad in downtown Chicago. She left to marry Bill and raise a family. She was a long-standing member of St. Mary’s Church in West Brooklyn, an insurance agent and member of Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Mendota Navy Mothers. She was active in the choir at St. Nicholas Church in her youth, at St. Mary’s as an adult and Holy Cross in Mendota in her “golden years.” She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society. She was the oldest surviving member of the Farrington family.
