MENDOTA – Bernard D. Billington, 94, of Mendota, passed away July 30, 2017 at the Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle.
Memorial visitation will be Friday, Aug. 4 from 10-11 a.m. at Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery with Mendota V.F.W. Post #4079 providing military rites.
Bernie was born April 19, 1923, in Hart, Mich., to John Thomas and Mary Bertha (Morlan) Billington.
Survivors include three sons, Paul (Laurie) Billington of St. Joseph, Mo., Thomas (Nancy) Billington of Springfield, Mo., and Mark (Laurie) Mueller of Columbia, Mo.; two daughters, Nancy Miller of Mendota and Pamela Mueller of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters and his parents.
He was a graduate of Earlville High School in 1941, then served in the United States Air Force during WWII. Bernie was the Sewer Department Plant Manager for the City of Mendota, retiring after 20 years. He belonged to the Mendota Moose Lodge, Mendota Elks Lodge #1212 and the American Legion.
