PRINCETON – The Bureau County Genealogical Society will feature the popular speaker Michael J. Neill at their July 27 meeting. Neill is one of our country's most advanced genealogists who lectures nationally on a wide variety of genealogical topics. In addition, he conducts research field trips to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah and the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, Ind. His website, rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com, is a treasure trove of research news and advice.
Neill’s lecture, "From Their Mouth to Your Computer Screen," will guide the audience through a tangle of steps that may have affected how information on your ancestor finally ends up being found or not found in online searches. Census records, court records, condition of records when microfilmed, transcription errors, and data base entry errors are some of the topics the audience can expect to learn about. Neill will have tips for better understanding failed search attempts and offer advice for new attempts. This free program begins at 7 p.m. at the Society Library at 629 South Main Street in Princeton.
