MENDOTA - Barbara J. Downs, 85, born and raised in Mendota, passed away Aug. 30, 2019 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Merritt Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Sheaves officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. on Sept. 5 at the funeral home.
Barb was born in Mendota to Harrison and Arlene Campbell.
Survivors include two brothers, Harold Campbell and Joseph Brady; a sister, Marjorie Taborn; three children, Christina, Dianna and David; and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold and a brother, Lawrence in infancy.
Over her 85 years, Barb wore many hats from a bomb welder during the war to becoming a CNA in her 50s. She was a loyal friend who loved long talks on the phone and afternoon coffee visits.
