NEW YORK, N.Y. – Barbara Carlson, 72, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Nov. 12, 2018 at her residence in New York City.

A private memorial service will be held at her New York City residence on Sunday, Dec. 2. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Barbara was born March 8, 1946 in Mendota to Frances “Fran” McKean Carlson and Arthur Bertil “Bert” Carlson. She married Harry Maas on Oct. 24, 1981 in New York City.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years; her three sons, Michael, Andrew and Kevin Maas; three siblings, Stephen, Susan and Phil Carlson; two nieces, Jennifer Neumaier and Emily Marti; and one sister-in-law, Suzanne Carlson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara graduated from Mendota High School in 1964 and the University of Iowa in 1968 with degrees in psychology and education. While at Iowa, she was a cheerleader for the Iowa Hawkeyes and a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Following graduation, she was fortunate enough to land one of the most coveted and glamorous jobs of any woman in the late 1960s: a stewardess for Pan American World Airways (“PanAm”). After traveling the world for PanAm for more than 10 years, she and her college-sweetheart, Harry, were married at the Rainbow Room in New York City. They raised their three sons in New York City and spent their summers in East Hampton.
