Survivors include her husband of 37 years; her three sons, Michael, Andrew and Kevin Maas; three siblings, Stephen, Susan and Phil Carlson; two nieces, Jennifer Neumaier and Emily Marti; and one sister-in-law, Suzanne Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara graduated from Mendota High School in 1964 and the University of Iowa in 1968 with degrees in psychology and education. While at Iowa, she was a cheerleader for the Iowa Hawkeyes and a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After traveling the world for PanAm for more than 10 years, she and her college-sweetheart, Harry, were married at the Rainbow Room in New York City. They raised their three sons in New York City and spent their summers in East Hampton.
