MENDOTA – Bill Bodmer, service technician at Schimmer GM in Mendota, retired on Dec 31, 2017. He was honored with a retirement luncheon party on Jan. 4 at Schimmer’s in Mendota.

Bodmer originally worked for Schimmer Pontiac in the early 1970s. Don Schimmer rehired him at Schimmer Pontiac Oldsmobile Buick on Jan. 1, 1982. At that time, the dealership was at 1503 Washington St. in Mendota, where Specialty Body Shop is currently located.

Over the next 35 years, Bodmer was a master level journeyman technician with the dealership. He received numerous awards and recognition from General Motors and the dealership over his career. Bodmer made lasting relationships with GM service field engineers and representatives over the years and was often the “go-to” technician with difficult mechanical issues.

His son, Erik Bodmer, is the dealership’s service manager and has been employed by the dealership for 25 years.

Over the last decade, Bill has assisted the dealership in restoration and maintenance of the dealership’s collector cars, including a 1985 Silverado and a 1952 GMC truck, that both had frame off restorations completed with Bill doing the entire mechanical restoration.

“Bill has been an important part in the dealership’s quality service reputation in the Mendota area,” Jeff Schimmer commented. “The dealership staff and our customers will greatly miss Bill and his knowledge but certainly wish him all the best in his retirement.”
