MENDOTA - Audrey J. Prokuski, 86, of Mendota passed away Jan. 20, 2022 at Heritage Health Mendota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Windy officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the Wasmer Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Sarah and Craig Willmert, Selena Waido, Dr. Michael Waido, Christopher Prokuski and Katie Leeper.

Audrey was born July 26, 1935 in LaSalle to Joseph and Angela (Kum) Strukel. She married Gerald Prokuski on Sept. 25, 1954 at the former St. Roch’s Church in LaSalle.

Audrey will be missed by her husband, Jerry of Mendota; one daughter, Karen (Scott) Waido of Mendota; one son, Keith (Marie) Prokuski of Streamwood; four grandchildren, Sarah (Craig) Wellmert, Selena Waido, Dr. Michael Waido and Christopher Prokuski; one step-granddaughter, Katie Leeper; and two great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Annabelle Willmert.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph Strukel and Donald Strukel; two sisters, Gail Nowiak and Ann “Babe” Cassidy; and one grandson, Matthew Waido.

Audrey attended St. Roch’s Grade School and St. Joseph Commercial in Peru. She assisted Jerry in forming a new floral and gift business in downtown Mendota, Jerry’s Flower Barn, while starting their family. She was a devoted member of Holy Cross Church. She was active in the church choir, the Altar and Rosary Society, Holy Cross School Parent’s Club, Mendota Christian Women United, Junior Women’s Club, Mendota Business and Professional Women’s Club where she was a past president. She was a three-time breast cancer survivor.
