ELCHO, Wis. - Audrey (Hood) Hampton, 93, died June 6, 2019 in Elcho, Wis. after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease.
A memorial visitation including a display of Audrey’s paintings will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the Carlson Funeral Home, 134 N. Stevens St., Rhinelander, Wis.
Audrey was born June 28, 1925 in Joliet to Charles and Dorothy (MacAndrew) Hood. She married Charles “Red” Hampton in Missouri on June 26, 1946. He preceded her in death in August 1977.
Survivors include her children, Toni (Dennis) Piller of Mendota, Tina (Allan) Meyer of Pound, Wis. and Tracy Hampton and Tye Hampton, both of Elcho, Wis.; four grandchildren, Kyle Piller, Kerry Yedinak, Mackenzie Meyer and Alexis Hampton; and four great-grandchildren.
Audrey worked as a tax preparer at both H & R Block and the IRS in Illinois. After the death of her husband, she returned to her beloved Enterprise Lake. Watercolor painting was her life’s passion. She exhibited her art work at many galleries and art shows throughout northern Wisconsin, including Green Bay’s Art Street and Wausau’s Art in the Park. She has won countless awards for her paintings and was most recently a participating member of the Northwoods Art Tour and the Manito Art League.
