OTTAWA – John G. Holzman of Mendota made his first court appearance before Judge Chris Ryan Jr. on June 27 at the LaSalle County Criminal Court building in Ottawa.
Holzman, 56, is charged with one count of criminal sexual assault (alleged victim 13-17 years of age), a Class 1 felony, and one count of criminal sexual abuse (defendant 5 years older than alleged victim), a Class 2 felony.
Assistant state’s attorney Matt Kidder represented the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office and David Kaleel represented Holzman.
During the court appearance, Kaleel filed a motion to modify the bond to allow Holzman to leave the state, which was granted without objection. However, Holzman was ordered to surrender his passport.
Holzman’s next court appearance will be an arraignment on Thursday, July 18 at 9 a.m. at which time he will enter a plea. If the plea is not guilty, a trial date will be set.
