Annual Kids Fishing Expo at Baker Lake


PERU - The 20th Annual Kids Fishing Expo will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baker Lake in Peru.

The free expo includes a free beginning fishing “how-to” clinic for boys and girls age 6 and older. Sessions will start every 15 minutes. Learn to cast, tie a knot, bait a hook, tie a fly, identify your catch and clean a fish. Bait will be provided and a limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan. 

The event will also include free food, drinks and snacks, fishing games with prizes, casting games, live fish displays, free fishing literature and door prizes, tips from professional fishermen, games by Pouncing Panthers 4H Club, safety information by the Peru Police Department and a Boy Scouts fishing merit badge.

The event is sponsored by the Better Fishing Association of Northern Illinois, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club and the LaSalle Rotary Club, in association with the cities of Peru and LaSalle and the Peru Rescue Squad.

Kids are reminded to also save the date for the Lock 14 Kids Fishing Tournament, which will take place on Saturday, June 2 at Lock 14 in LaSalle.
