MENDOTA - Ann Marie (Schmitt) Wujek, 94, of Mendota, passed away Aug. 1, 2018 at the Mendota Lutheran Home. 

Cremation rights have been accorded. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Holy Cross Church, Mendota with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Ann was born May 6, 1924 in Mendota to Frank and Susanna (Bromenschenkel) Schmitt. She married Steve Wujek on Oct. 31, 1944. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1975.

Survivors include five children, David (Cheri) Wujek of Galesburg, Richard (Vicki) Wujek of Mendota, Larry Wujek of Mendota, Peggy Heinz of Bloomington and Diane (Richard) Lang of Germantown Hills; six grandchildren, Robert, Stephen, Scott, Kellie, Colin and Hillary; two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Patrick; four sisters-in-law, Gladys Schmitt, Arlene Schmitt, Celeste Schmitt and Mary Catherine Wujek; one brother-in-law, Edward Wujek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Donald, Ralph, Robert and Jim “Stymie” Schmitt; and eight sisters, Sister Verona, Gertrude Jauch Weber, Elizabeth Engels, Catheryne Schmitt, Ruth Schmitt, Francile Stremlau, Mary Dean and Suzann Stremlau.

Ann was raised and educated in Mendota. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and worked at various part time jobs during her life. She enjoyed being with family, traveling and playing card games. She will be deeply missed by her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mendota Area Senior Services (MASS) or to the donor’s choice.
