AMBOY - Angela L. “Angel” DeVries, 56, of Amboy, died June 21, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in LaSalle County.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on June 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy with Rev. Timothy Draper, pastor, officiating. A fellowship meal followed at St. Patrick Hall. Private burial was at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien. Visitation was from 8 to 10 a.m. on June 26 at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.

Angela was born Sept. 30, 1960 in Oak Park to Ralph and Judith (Westerhausen) Palmer.

Survivors include her children, Brittany Shields of Cincinnati, Ohio and Colin Dean (Abigail Marie Thomas) Shields, Christian Jerret Shields and Chas Franklin Shields, all of Amboy; one sister, Sharon (Daniel) Ryan of Westmont; her mother, Judith Palmer of Sun City, Ariz.; her father, Ralph (Sue) Palmer of Lake in the Hills; and special friend, Steve Green of Mark.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and one great aunt.

Angela was the human resources officer at First National Bank in Amboy, where she had also worked as a trust officer. She had also worked as an advertising representative for the Sacramento Bee newspaper, was a teachers aid for Amboy Junior High School, and was an EMT in California. She was a member of the YMCA, the Amboy Chamber of Commerce, Amboy CUSD 272 School Board and the Amboy Depot Days Car Show Committee where she served as a judge. She enjoyed her Arabian horses, Harley Davidson motorcycles, dogs and cats, painting, and had a love for antiques. She also played the viola, drums and bass guitar. She was a foster mom for over 10 years.
