MOLINE – Mendota got on the scoreboard first, but things went downhill after that as a powerful Rock Island Alleman team coasted to a 13-3, six-inning win over the Trojans in the championship game of the Alleman Class 2A Regional Baseball Tournament on May 19 at Moline.

Sam Becker led off the game with a single and swiped second for his 40th steal of the season. One out later, Bryson Prusator doubled down the left field line to plate Becker for a 1-0 Trojan lead.

But Alleman answered right back in the bottom of the first when it pushed across two runs and the Pioneers were never headed the rest of the way.

Alleman added four runs in the second as the first six batters reached base on three hits and two walks.

Mendota made it 6-3 in the top of the third, getting an RBI triple by Ben Bokus and a sacrifice fly by Austin Robinson, but that was it for the Trojan offense, which got outhit, 15-4, on the day.

The Pioneers scored three unearned runs in the third, stole home for a run in the fifth and then put the game away with three more unearned tallies in the sixth.

Prusator pitched the first three innings and took the loss. He allowed nine hits, nine runs (six earned), walked four and struck out five. Becker finished up on the hill.

Becker singled twice for half of Mendota’s hits.

The Trojans finished their season with a 13-14 record, while Alleman improved to 29-5.
