MENDOTA - Windy City Amusements of St. Charles will again be setting up on the midway at this year’s Mendota Sweet Corn Festival. As they have done the past two years, the carnival will hold a “Special Afternoon for Special Kids” from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8.

“Windy City Amusements offered this special promotion for the third year at the Sweet Corn Festival and has got a lot of positive feedback from parents, whose children took part and had a great time,” said Chamber President & CEO Kate Fox, “so we have decided to have the Special Afternoon for Special Kids again this year at our Sweet Corn Festival.”

The carnival will open early only for children and adults with special needs on Sweet Corn Festival Thursday, Aug. 8. “This promotion is essentially a free carnival for those with special needs and their immediate family members only,” Fox explained. “The midways will be less crowded with no long lines to wait in, nor any charge to ride as much as they wish. At 5:30 p.m., the carnival will close and reopen again at 6 p.m. for the general public.

The Special Afternoon is open to all families with special needs members, no matter where they are from. The Chamber asks the family to please pre-register online at sweetcornfestival.com by clicking the calendar tab and downloading the form and getting it to the Chamber office or they can stop by the Chamber office to fill out the form.

Families are asked to check in at the registration tent beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8 for this event. Most adult rides will be unavailable during this special time and the lights will be dimmed and music lowered for those who would be uncomfortable with such distractions.

“We hope that everyone will take advantage and help spread the word about the ‘Special Afternoon for Special Kids’ promotions offered by Windy City Amusements here at the 72nd Annual Sweet Corn Festival,” said Fox.
