MENDOTA – Mendota High School hosted five area schools’ cross country teams in a meet held at its home Lake Mendota course on Sept. 19.
The Amboy-LaMoille team dominated the girls’ race, posting four of the top five finishes and tallying a team score of 17 points.
Margaret Vaessen of A-L topped the field in 21:08 on the 2.99-mile course.
Mendota's best finish belonged to Lily Linden (26:37, 14th). Also competing for the Lady Trojans were Gabi Brown (21st, 28:09), Piper Artman (25th, 30:15) and Bonnie Hall (26th, 30:18).
Princeton was second in team scoring with 51, followed by Putnam County's 72 points and Hall's 81. Mendota and St. Bede did not field complete teams.
In the boys’ run, Amboy-LaMoille’s Thomas Stamberger traversed the course in 17:05 for the win.
Mendota's top finish belonged to Rigo Hermosillo (21:42, 19th), while Ty Connelly (33rd, 24:40) also competed.
Hall took the top team score (37) followed by St. Bede (41), Putnam County (73) and Princeton (76). Mendota and Amboy-LaMoille did not field a complete team.
