MENDOTA – Windy City Amusements of St. Charles will be setting up on the midway at this year’s Mendota Sweet Corn Festival.

“We are happy to announce the addition of a new carnival to our schedule of Festival events,” announced Jesse Arellano, Mendota Chamber Director. “They will be bringing 21 rides to our midway that should please children of all ages. For the little ones there is the “Balloon Race” and the “Dizzy Dragons,” and for the older kids and adults, “Sky Rider” and “Freak Out” to name just a few. For the whole family is the “Big Wheel,” a very large Ferris Wheel with gondola cars.”

Not only will the carnival be bringing new and exciting rides to Mendota, but is offering a host of special promotions. For the first time a Mega Pass will be offered. The Mega Pass will let you ride every day Aug. 10-13, as many rides as you want, as many times as you want. The cost of the Mega Pass is $60 if purchased before Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. Mega Passes can be purchased at the Mendota Chamber office. After the Aug. 7 date the price will be $75, and will be available at the carnival ticket booth.

“You will be able to ride the entire Sweet Corn Festival from 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 for only $15 per day,” said Arellano.

There will still be regular discount ride armbands available for $25 each for those that wish to ride for only one day. These regular armbands are for Thursday, Aug. 10 from 6-10 p.m. or Friday, Aug. 11 from noon-4 p.m.

Another promotion offered by Windy City Amusements is a “Special Afternoon for Special Kids.” On Thursday, Aug. 10, the carnival will open early for only those kids and adults with special needs from 3:30-5:30 p.m. This promotion is essentially a FREE carnival, for those with special needs and their immediate family members only. The midway will be less crowded with no long lines to wait in, nor any charge to ride as much as they wish. At 5:30 p.m., the carnival will close and reopen again at 6 p.m. for the general public.

“It does not matter where the family is from, if they would like to participate they are welcome,” stated Arellano. “We ask the family to pre-register by calling the Chamber office at (815) 539-6507 and to check in at the registration tent beginning at 2:30 on Thursday, Aug. 10.”

Not all rides will be available during this special time and the lights will be dimmed and music lowered for those who would be uncomfortable with it.

“We hope that everyone will take advantage of the Mega Pass and the ‘Special Afternoon for Special Kids’ promotions offered by Windy City Amusements here at the 70th Annual Sweet Corn Festival,” said Arellano.
