4-H Livestock Judging teams prepare for upcoming competitions

Posted

LA SALLE COUNTY - The LaSalle County Senior Livestock Judging team recently competed at a Livestock Judging competition event held at Black Hawk East in Kewanee. The team also plans to compete in more events throughout Iowa and Illinois through the months of February, March and April.

The junior and senior judging team has been practicing diligently at farms and the University of Illinois Extension in LaSalle County. During weather in which most people would stay inside under a warm blanket, team members are out in the cold, wet weather improving their skills with livestock. Livestock judging gives youth the opportunity to practice and gain new knowledge in the fields of animal science, business, public speaking and leadership. The 4-H livestock judging program teaches youth to identify breeds of livestock and helps them make decisions which improve their local herds. LaSalle County 4-H supports this team’s diligence, discipline in perfecting their skills and improving knowledge to become the best they can be.

Led by Sharon Reel and Scott Freebairn, the LaSalle County 4-H Judging team includes senior team members, Kara Freebairn, Cole Freebairn, Dalton Walter, Hueston Wilson, Karly Reel, Ian Sundberg and Kameron Hastings; and junior team members, Ella Crane, Marlie Meisel, Leah Reed, Karson Sundberg, Braydon Wilson and Kieran Black.

For more information and to enroll in 4-H, contact the University of Illinois Extension-LaSalle County at (815) 433-0707.
