10 ways to help your child reach educational success

NACHUSA – Being a parent can be overwhelming at times. With the media broadcasting stories about increases in substance abuse and youth violence, there is a lot to think about when it comes to doing what is best for your child. When thinking specifically about your child’s education, ask yourself, “What am I doing to help increase my child’s chance toward educational success?”

If you answered “nothing” or have never thought about it before, here are 10 ways to stay involved in your children’s education.

  • Attend parent teacher conferences and other “open house” nights at your child’s school.
  • Visit the school and/or its website.
  • Support homework requirements and expectations.
  • Help your teen be their best self for school.
  • Help your child become more organized.
  • Do your best to help your student with assignments and studying.
  • Know the school’s bullying and disciplinary policies.
  • Get involved in school programs and activities.
  • Ensure proper school attendance.
  • Make a set time to discuss the school day with your child.
